In 2015, astronomer and astrophysicist Micheäl Gillon discovered three Earth-sized planets orbiting a “nearby” star, 39.5 light-years away. He did so by using the Transiting Planets and Planetesimals Small Telescope (TRAPPIST).
In early 2017, NASA built upon this discovery and took another look at the small solar system using the Spitzer Space Telescope and the Very Large Telescope to reveal that the star hosted four other planets.
Not only did the total planets number seven, but it was determined that three of them lie within the habitable zone.
Want to join the crew to Trappist-I? The first ship(ments) launched in March 2017, but head on over to Cotton Bureau and put in a request. If there are enough eager travelers, we’ll launch again!
